Sarah Palin needs thicker skin

By Jonathan Capehart

You know what? I've had it up to here (visualize my hand hoisted over my head) with Mama Grizzly's gripes against the media. Does the press get it right every time? No. Can media hounds be unfair? Absolutely. But Sarah Palin's latest harangue on Facebook after she got pummeled for saying the U.S. needs to stand with "our North Korean allies" shows that the turkey skin I gobbled up Thursday night is thicker than the half-term governor's.

You can read Palin's characteristically sarcastic and dismissive lash-out here. But she can't possibly survive a run for president (which I'm certain she won't do) wearing her heart and all of her paranoias on her sleeve. People already think she's not fit for the Oval Office. Such petty rhetorical tantrums are more befitting a pampered star than a president.

She knows exactly what she's doing, pimping the media for gain, as this article shows...http://wp.me/pNmlT-zy

Sarah Palin has a Narcissistic Personality Disorder.. an unrealistic sense of self-importance and entitlement.
One key characteristic of the Narcissist is
HAVING A VERY THIN SKIN. That is what gives
her away...any criticism is blown way out of
proportion. Sorry, Jonathan, personality
disorders never go away. She can't change.

Folks who have Narcissistic Personality Disorder are also notoriously paranoid... if others only knew what their inner world is acutally like, they wouldn't treat them as special!

Calm down Jonathan... aren't you just a bit too upset ? thin skinned maybe ? : )

Why so upset that she took the opportunity to skewer and roast the "my Muslim faith" President Obama in her message to all 57 States ? : )

She was unfairly skewered across national and international media... for a misspeak as noted by the Weekly Standard .. only 8 seconds after correctly identifying North Korea as America's enemy.

Why shouldn't she take the opportunity to skewer our Teleprompter-challenged President ?

Don't be so sensitive Jonathan : )

The cure for Mrs. Palin's thin skin is for all news media except Newscorp(Fox)to stop covering every utterance and appearance.

She is not an elected official and she quit her job as governor of Alaska. She should have no more coverage than any other would be contender for the Republican nomination. Those that are far more serious as candidates such as Romney, Pawlenty or Sen. Thune get far less coverage and though I don't agree with them are really getting a raw deal because the media is intent on having at least one story per day on the irrational musings of Sarah Palin.

So let me get this straight. She had a slip of the tongue, everyone who listened to the entire interview knew that. Yet the entire national and international media ran with it as some sort of evidence of her lack of foreign policy credentials. You're argument is that she shouldn't have responded and should have allowed the narrative to run, because if she does decide to run it's good that people believe that. Nice try.
What really bothers you is that you and the media have been trying to cover up Obama's gaffes and she had the audacity to bring them to light. Your post is not about Palin being thin skinned it's about not being able to protect Obama's skin.

And another thing:

"Does the press get it right every time? No. Can media hounds be unfair? Absolutely."

Name one instance where the media has given her a fair shake, one instance where the media has given her the benefit of the doubt. Name one time where the media has been fair to her. Come on, no matter how much you'll try you wont find it.

I suggest you check you dictionary for the definition of paranoia, judging by this column you obviously don't know what it means.

Sheya @ November 29, 2010 2:29 PM wrote "She had a slip of the tongue, everyone who listened to the entire interview knew that."

The problem is that she can see Russia from her house and reads every newspaper there is ...

For a while I expected her to reveal that she can tell when Kim Jong Il has a haircut ... and that would be something.

You gotta admit that Palin's, "characteristically sarcastic and dismissive lash-out" is damn funny, and 100% truthful!

Posted by: pmendez | November 29, 2010 3:03 PM | Report abuse

She's very mean spirited. There's nothing optimistic about her.

"Such petty rhetorical tantrums are more befitting a pampered star than a president."

That's because that's exactly what Sarah Palin is, a "pampered star" of the cult of personality. The fact you even consider her name in the same breath as POTUS goes to show just how evalted beyond her proper place she already is.

Posted by: jakeyrotten | November 29, 2010 3:11 PM | Report abuse

Palin mean-spirited ? : )

Maybe you should watch her reality Discovery Channel Alaska show. She is anything but.

Thin-skinned are ya ?

Put a sock in it, Capehart. I'm sure you know how.

Reading the Wikileak, one is amazed and amused at the way Obama treats US closest allies. It appears that Obama himself really think that North Korea is America's closest allies.....Soon most betrayed allies will abandon Obama's America and the only worthy ally Obama can find in this world is maybe North Korea.....as both treat their allies so similarly - with so little respect and trust.

Sarah Palin is very presidential -- if you're talking about her 8th grade class.

Anything above that, not so much.

Posted by: Observer691 | November 29, 2010 4:38 PM | Report abuse

Sarah Palin should learn from President Obama.

President Obama has a much thicker skin than Palin. He is thich-skinned that he allows wikileaks to distribute sensitive information allow over the world. Obama is so generous and kind-hearted that he allow wikileaks to do whatever they want, not once, and they will continue to give out more leaks knowing that President Obama is so thick-skinned and friendly.

President Obama is so calm, so serene, so relax never once complained about the media while the media is distributing wikileaks' leaks that will endanger the lives of American security forces. Obama is not as petty and mean-spirited as Palin and thus hold no grudge against wikileaks.Unlike Palin, the ever magnanimous Obama does not pursue wikileaks with a deep sense of vengence and vendetta, and allowing wikileak to keep leaking.

Unlike Palin, Obama is not paranoid over wikileaks.

The woman has ZERO substance. She will exist as long as media promote her, and no longer.

I think Palin needs to "man up" a bit.

Mr Capehart; all,

ONE thing that Sarah Palin is 100% correct about is that the "mainstream news media" is CORRUPT, ARROGANT, SELF-impressed, ignorant of the actual truth in all too many cases & LIES like a rug about anything/anybody, that/whom they have decided to dislike.

therefore, may i simply say that the more i learn about the "progressive", LEFTIST, DIMocRAT-controlled "main-SLIME media" the better i like poisonous snakes, vemonous spiders & scorpions?

furthermore, IF the NY SLIMES, "the washington COMpost" & other similar publications would like to continue publishing, that you consider printing THE TRUTH in EVERY case. - in case you don't know, THE TRUTH is THE TRUTH.

THE TRUTH is NOT wishful thinking, personal opinions, "group-speak", meaningless blather, arrogant/inbred prejudices, "political spin" out of the DNC/Congress/WH and/or what "the smart set" believes, but rather it is THE TRUTH. - you might think on that.

Sarah Palin is playing in a field surrounding by wolfs that wait patiently for any mis-speak morsel to fall their way in a vain attempt to discredit her.

At some point along time ago the people that like her could care less, the people that are thinking about her are beginning to wonder how much more the media can dump on her.

At some point it becomes obvious that the media will do anything to stop her from being elected. That in itself it enough to vote for her - yabetcha!

Jonathan, I believe it is you and not your turkey skin that is thick.

Good job Capehart. You are exactly right. Look at the nonsense that presidents have to deal with from the media. Is Palin going to spend her entire presidency sending out twitters every time somebody says something she doesn't like. She behaves like a child. Anybody that thinks she is capable of being president is an idiot.

CharlesS,

anybody who seriously thinks that Sarah Palin is ACTUALLY going to run for POTUS is a MORON.

she is making far too much $$$$$$$$$ as a "news commentator" BUT may possibly run for Congress.

the LIKELY Tea Party/GOP candidate in 2012 is JIM DeMINT of SC.
