More Proof That The Music Industry Is In Trouble
You know the music-biz apocalypse is imminent when models are suddenly finding politicians sexier than rock stars.
As you've no doubt heard, Carla Bruni - the foxy French-Italian model-turned-singer whose dating resume includes Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton - has French prez Nicolas Sarkozy under her thumb.
"It's serious," Sarkozy said of their relationship earlier this week.
What next, Naomi Campbell hooking up with Hugo Chavez?
Bruni isn't actually a working model anymore, having cat-walked away from the fashion world in the late 1990s to pursue a music career.
But she's still better known for baring her legs and rather famous backside (kinda NSFW) in photos and on the runway than she is for baring her soul in song - at least on these shores.
In Europe, Bruni had some success with her debut album, "Quelqu'un M'a Dit," which was awarded four out of five stars by All Music Guide. Last year, she released another album, "No Promises," featuring famous poems set to breezy music.
Neither album has been released on these shores yet, but worry not, dear surfer - YouTube is here to help.
Here's Bruni talking about/singing bits of her takes on Emily Dickinson's "I'm Coming In the Fall," Yeats's "Those Dancing Days Are Gone" and Auden's "Lady Weeping at the Crossroads":
And here is a video (en français) from her debut:
Rock on, Sarkozy!
