The Full Festival Lineup!

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, John Fogerty, Foo Fighters, Beck, Manu Chao, Gnarls Barkley, David Byrne, the Raconteurs, Erykah Badu, Patty Griffin, Conor Oberst, Iron and Wine, Vampire Weekend, Roky Erickson, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, MGMT, Okkervil River, Against Me!, Jenny Lewis, Jamie Lidell, the Black Keys, Drive-By Truckers...

Oh, wait -- wrong festival!

The Austin City Limits Music Festival has announced its 2008 lineup, which follows the recent Lollapalooza lineup announcement, which followed the announcements for just about every other U.S. festival there is ... save for one, it seems: The Virgin Mobile Festival, Aug. 9 and 10 at Pimlico Race Course.

VMoFest's five headliners (Nine Inch Nails, the Foos, Kanye West, Stone Temple Pilots and recent "SNL" whipping boy Jack Johnson) were announced two weeks ago, and the full lineup will be unveiled before the end of this month.

But as I've noted previously, VMoFest has been slow out of the gate in a year in which the festival finds itself jockeying for position in an increasingly crowded field -- one that includes a competing East Coast event on that same August weekend. And the All Points West Music and Arts Festival, which will be staged in Jersey City on Aug. 8-10, announced its full lineup way back in February.

Austin City Limits, by the way, is scheduled for Sept. 26-28 -- seven weeks after VMoFest.

Of course, VMoFest producer/promoter Seth Hurwitz insists that it's really not a race, and that he's taking his sweet time getting the lineup finalized because "rushing to book mediocre bands just to meet a deadline" isn't in his business plan, and that it's worth the wait.

I guess we'll see.

So he doesn't want to rush to book mediocre bands just to meet a deadline...yet ACL booked lots of qualitiy acts (Jenny Lewis! Love her!) way ahead of time. This confirms that i will NOT be attending VMoFest.

Rokslide lineup was announced. Are they Danes or Self-Congratulatory Hipsters who were somehow able to wrangle a line-up including Radiohead,My Bloody Valentine Jay-Z, M.I.A., Cat Power, Neil Young, Liars, Grinderman, Hot Chip, the Streets, Dan Deacon, Girl Talk, No Age, Gnarls Barkley. How in the world was 3 days of entertainment put together without having to rely on Jack Johnson. Maybe Seth Horowitz should have let Ike Leggett pick the bands, don't think Ike would have approved Stone Temple Pilots. Wasn't it this kind of last minute planning for completing the a festival line-up the same thing that got Live Nation the Silver Spring Filmore Deal.
