Pick Six With ... Ayo

The joyful-noise specialist Ayo.

The German folk-soul singer Ayo became something of a sensation in Europe when her debut album, "Joyful," was released in 2006.

Still gunning for a stateside breakthrough, she recently moved to New York and has embarked on yet another U.S. tour. (She performs tonight at the 9:30 club.)

Post Rock asked Ayo for an annotated list of her six favorite summer songs. She obliged by emailing an eclectic list of oldies. The youngest entry? "Rosa Parks," released in 1998.

Bob Marley, "Turn Your Lights Down Low" - "Beautiful feelings."

Jimmy Cliff, "Hard Road to Travel" - "My dad and I love this song."

OutKast, "Rosa Parks" - "I like the fact that there are still rappers who can talk about real things, especially a true story about an incredible woman."

David Bowie, "Andy Warhol" - "I like the way it is recorded."

Rickie Lee Jones, "We Belong Together" - "Beautiful love song."

Donny Hathaway, "A Song for You" - "My favorite artist."
