All In The Gang
The members of Bloc Party have said that they dislike Gang of Four
comparisons, as they don't exactly fancy the '80s band whose blend of
spiky, dissonant guitars and punk-funk beats provided a post-punk
template.
But then Bloc Party comes roaring out of the gate here with songs that
feature spiky, slightly dissonant guitars that are heavy on
effects-pedal delays and driving disco-rock rhythms (some of them
programmed) that don't sound too far removed from the Dance Tent
proffer. And they're slightly political, too, just like ... Gang of
Four!
Thou doth protest too much, dudes.
