BRMC's Satanic Majesties Request
Guy next to me as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club kicks off its set of swirling psychedelic blues-rock: "Man, if I had any LSD, I'd be [expletive] right now."
BRMC specializes in dirty, druggy music that recalls T. Rex, the Jesus and Mary Chain and psych-era Stones - all woozy, effects-laden guitars, sludgy basslines and droning vocal harmonies. Well, that and good old-fashioned bad-boy men-in-black swagger.
"I've never played this early in the morning," mumbles the trio's singer-guitarist Peter Hayes, who is hiding behind a pair of rock-star shades and a veil of rock-star hair. Then, he adds: "I've never been up this early."
What a derivative trip.
