Are You Ready for Some Football? How About Some Morrissey?

As I was contemplating my NFL survivor pool pick for Week 2 (tough week!) while listening to Morrissey I remembered the most bizarre moment of last weekend -- hearing the Moz's "Everyday Is Like Sunday" used in an NFL Network ad.

It's not actually Morrissey singing; it sounds like some Nashville session guy. I've pretty much stopped freaking out about good music being used in advertising but this one is just bizarre. Morrissey and the NFL? What? Yes, the song title maybe-sorta-kinda works for the ad but the rest of the song isn't quite the Faith Hill/Hank Jr. getting-revved-for-pigskin anthem.

Although I guess the "Come, armageddon, come!" line might have been appropriate for Patriots fans last week. Or Lions fans every week.

Maybe Morrissey will perform during the Superbowl halftime show? Or better yet, a Smiths reunion! I want to hear 80,000 football fans singing along to "Meat Is Murder."

A Smiths reunion, now that would be worth the price scalpers are charging for tickets outside! It is time the the NFL to make this happen.

What a brutal cover. Really takes the edge off of when Nissan used How Soon Is Now?

I died a little inside when I heard this for the first time... and I love football!
