Do You Realize the Flaming Lips are Playing a Free Show on Sunday??

(Cross posted from Going Out Gurus blog. Thanks to commenter Hemisphere for the quick tip!)

For a long time we've known there was going to be a free concert -- Earth Day on the National Mall on Sunday. We just didn't know who was going to play. I assumed it'd be a lot of hippie nonsense, but it's just a little bit of hippie nonsense. And it's actually pretty awesome -- psychedelic superstars the Flaming Lips will be the headliners, with guitar noodlers moe., Tex-Mex stalwarts Los Lobos and the always-forward-thinking DJ Spooky also on the bill. Let's just hope it doesn't get washed out like last year's concert did.

There are no details on order, schedule or anything like that, and don't expect it to be forthcoming any time soon. If it took the organizers until five days before the show to confirm who was playing, you have to think the rest of the details are going to emerge slowly. But still -- free Flaming Lips!

Do guys know if you have to actually do the volunteer events in order to go this concert?

The show is free and open to the public, but they'll have a "VIP" section for volunteers.
