Blogger Profile: Frank Ahrens

Frank Ahrens came to media and technology at an early age during his childhood in West Virginia (state flower: the satellite dish). He snuck into The Washington Post in 1992 and spent four years as an editor in the Sports section, followed by five years as a feature writer in the Style section.
Since late 2001, he has been a Business section writer, covering the media and entertainment industries. Back in '01, big media companies were pretty much clueless about technology. ("Hey, I've got a great idea! Let's buy AOL!"). Now they realize it is core to their very existence: Witness YouTube hits that get more viewers than primetime television shows.
Frank derives his technological expertise from two sources: a) his mechanical engineering degree and b) his encyclopedic knowledge of "Star Trek." ('Cause, you know, chicks dig that.)
