Happy Holidays: Have a Database

Frank Ahrens

One of the goals of this blog, Post I.T., is to create more than a collection of quick hits on tech, gadgets and media, which often evaporate almost as soon as you read them, like digital cotton candy.

To be a real User's Guide to the 21st Century, we need staying power. We want you to come back again and again and become a real resource for you.

One way to do that is to create standing and updatable databases for users.

Many of these will be culled from your input. For instance, our first one: A database of user reviews of the iPod and the Zune.

When Microsoft rolled out the Zune in November, I asked to hear from folks who had bought one. Unsolicited, iPod owners happily chimed in as well. I took the best ones and created a database. Even better, we can wiki this thing: You can post your iPod and Zune (and other mp3 devices) reviews in the comment section at the bottom of the database. I'll take the best of those and add them. As players evolve, so will we.

Bonus: Maybe this database will help with your last-minute holiday shopping decisions.

Further: If you get iPods and Zunes as holiday presents, feel free to post your comments.

Hey, Tyler: Whoever heard of the Amazon user reviews when they started up?

Much more to come.

Happy holidays!

The cultural battle begins when
restaurants and public places
install receptor Zunes with
speakers on spot locations
as juke-boxes.

Got one for Christmas, Zune that is. Really like it, yeah I know is larger not quite the condensed size of apple but then I get a larger picture. Also like the folder system for music. I teach both Mac and PC to seniors so I get equally upset with both companies so I know there is no prefect product out there. But I do like the fact that Micorsoft follows up their product with software updates and fixes

Just for the record, apple also follows up their products with updates.

Even if I didn't already own an ipod, I would not have purchased the Zune - at least not v1.0. Remember the original ipod? Anything 1.0 is likely to be usurped by a better implementation months down the road.
