Blogging From the Runway

LAS VEGAS - Sent from the runway at McCarren International Airport.

As we taxi into our gate, here are some fun facts about CES, just to keep its size in perspective.

The estimated attendance of CES is expected to be 140,000, more than enough to clog I-66 at rush hour and make the Las Vegas Monorail feel like the Orange Line at 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday.

The total exhibit space is 1.7 million square feet (more than 39 acres), spread across two convention centers and two Vegas hotels.

There are 2,700 exhibitors, from 2 Wheel Tunes, Inc. to ZyXEL Communications. (Want to know how important China has become to this industry? 85 companies' names start with "Shenzhen," the booming city inland from Hong Kong.)

The show guide put out by the Consumer Electronics Association takes 24 pages just to map out every exhibitor's location.

Sounds like Comdex in the late 90's, just before it cratered...
