Your Schedule In The Cloud

Kim Hart

In another instance of Web-based applications replacing traditional software programs, Google last night announced a product that syncs your Outlook calendar directly to your Google calendar.

If you visit Google Calendar, click on the What's New link in the upper right-hand corner to see get the feature. Many Blackberry users already sync their Outlook email and schedules to their mobile phones, but this new feature lets you combine your work calendar with your personal commitments, so you can view them both anywhere over the web (or on a mobile device) without keeping two copies going all the time. Find more details at Google's Blog.

The Calendar Sync feature follows in the footsteps of free IMAP access for Gmail, and access to your AIM buddies in Gmail chat. Of course, there's already Google Docs and Spreadsheets. It's just another example of the migration of all things on the desktop to the cloud, and another example of a Google product appearing to replace a staple of Microsoft's signature software suit.
