Guitar Hero Battle at Hard Rock Cafe
Local Guitar Hero fans showed up at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown Sunday night to battle for a chance to win a trip to Boston and a motorcycle designed by Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler.
The contest, sponsored by Spin magazine and Hard Rock Cafe, was thrown to promote a new version of the hit game based around the music of Aerosmith. The top four scorers, from similar events in 15 cities, will face off against each other in Boston next month.
One of the rules of the ongoing tournament is that contestants have to be over 21. For anybody old enough to participate, that a nice detail -- as the event's winner pointed out.
"The best Guitar Hero players are all under 17, so I figured I had a chance," said HT Gold, a 30-year-old who lives in Arlington and works as a Web developer, before going on to win the evening's event. Gold, who heard about the contest through a Web site dedicated to the game, said that he's actually a bigger fan of the other popular music game out there, Rock Band, because of that game's music selection and downloadable content.
Gold won a Gibson guitar and a Guitar Hero controller signed by the band's singer. It's too soon to tell whether his high score was enough to win him a trip to Boston.
