Out On the Town? Your iPhone Tells You When to Call It a Night.

Kim Hart

It's Monday.

Which means some of you are still recovering from a couple of late nights out on the town. Maybe you're still telling your co-workers about a wild Saturday night, or at least the parts you can remember.

A new iPhone application helps you keep track of your alcohol consumption, so you might be able to remember a few more of those torrid details.

"Last Call" is an application developed by Avvo, a Seattle-based firm that specializes in helping consumers find legal advice. Avvo says the application has been downloaded more than 5,000 times since it was launched last week.

Here's how it works: As you imbibe, log the type of drink, such as a margarita, a pint of beer or a glass of Merlot. Based on your gender, height and weight, the application calculates your blood-alcohol level as you go.

In theory, that should let you know when you've reached your limit. Using the iPhone's GPS capabilities, it will find and call a nearby taxi service, should you need it. And if you decide to drive anyway, it will help you find the best DUI lawyer in your region.

Sounds logical. But after a few drinks, will you even remember you have a cellphone?
