New Google books settlement delayed to Friday
A federal judge on Monday granted Google and authors and publishers an extension to file a revised settlement to their dispute over the online giant's plan to digitize millions of books.
Judge Denny Chin, of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York, approved the request from Google and the plaintiffs in the class action suit. In a letter to Chin, the parties said they have been "working dilligently" on a revised settlement after the Justice Department criticized a deal struck in 2008 as potentially anticompetitive. The groups said they have been in talks with the antitrust division of Justice and met as recently as last Friday to work out details on their new settlement.
