Uptown to the suburbs
Saturday's Uptown Hoop Fest, a six-game bill scheduled for Coolidge has been moved to Northwestern because of "discrepancies in terms of getting the event together," according to Arize Ifejika, the event's organizer and promoter.
Ifejika said there was disagreement between the school and his promotional company, More Than Basketball, about the cost and security personnel involved, and he decided Thursday to move the games to Northwestern.
"It's unfortunate we had to take it out of the city," Ifejika said.
Nevertheless, no matter where these games are held, there will still be a fair amount of talent on the court during the day. A $10 ticket ($5 for students) gets you in to all six games, which are as follows:
-Riverdale Baptist vs. Stonewall Jackson (girls), 12 noon
-Coolidge vs. Riverdale Baptist (boys), 1:40 p.m.
-National Christian vs. Miller, 3:20 p.m.
-Cesar Chavez vs. Blue Ridge, 5 p.m.
-KIMA vs. Montrose Christian, 6:40 p.m.
-Friendship Collegiate vs. Progressive Christian, 8:20 p.m.
