Damascus Golfers Lead the Way in Montgomery Tourney

Cody Pestun of Damascus made a par on the first playoff hole to edge Robert Balaban of Landon to win the boys’ championship in the Montgomery County Golf High School Invitational on Wednesday at Falls Road Golf Course in Potomac.

In the girls’ tournament, Karishma Thiangaraj of Richard Montgomery birdied three of the final four holes to shoot 5-over par 76 and edge Churchill’s Diana Brown by one stroke.

In the boys’ tournament, Pestun and Balaban each shot 79, forcing a playoff that started on the par-4 18th hole. Pestun hit his approach shot to 15 feet and two-putted for the victory.

Pestun was not the only Damascus player with a memorable round. Brett Myers, who finished tied for sixth with an 82, made a hole-in-one on the 172-yard 14th hole.
