Cooper named boys' basketball coach at Urbana
Urbana boys' basketball assistant coach John Cooper has been promoted to head coach, replacing Terry Connolly, who left to take over the head coaching reins at the new Oakdale High. Oakdale will open this fall in Ijamsville.
Cooper was Connolly's assistant for four years and coached the junior varsity as well. Urbana's JV lost only one game last season. The 51-year-old Cooper was an assistant coach at Magruder prior to joining Connolly at Urbana but this will be his first stint as a high school varsity head coach.
