Oakton Regroups After Loss To T.C.

No. 19 Oakton has to get over its 15-9 loss at T.C. Williams in which the Cougars fumbled with 90 seconds to play and Titans senior linebacker Chelo Abbe returned the ball 50 yards for the winning score.

Then again, a lingering loss could make a more lasting impression on a young team.

“It’s not hard to get past it, it’s just a matter of making sure that we don’t repeat it,” said Oakton Coach Joe Thompson, whose team had not lost to a non-Concorde District local opponent since Week 2 of the 2007 season.

“You almost want a little bit of that to stick around. You don’t want to forget it all because you don’t want to make the same mistakes.”

Next up for the Cougars is a game at unbeaten Annandale, and after that comes five-time defending Virginia AAA Division 5 region finalist Edison. Then the Concorde schedule.
