Westfield Wins Concorde Golf

Chantilly senior Victor Monte, whose older brother also had some big wins shot a 5-under par 67-72 – 139 to win the Virginia AAA Concorde District title but it was a solid team effort that propelled Westfield to a come-from-behind victory over the Chargers for the team title.

With Centreville already claiming one of the Concorde’s berths in the Northern Region tournament, Westfield and Chantilly were battling for the Concorde’s second berth in the regional tournament. If a team does not advance to the regionals, it has no chance at a state tournament either.

Chantilly held a nine-stroke lead entering Wednesday’s second round at par-72 Twin Lakes, but Westfield rallied to win by five strokes. Wes Liu shot 71-70 – 141 to finish third in the individual field. Also Wednesday, Shabril Brewer shot 70, Tim Ritter 72 and Jimmy Sanders 74.

“Once again, we’re just consistent,” Westfield Coach Tim Vigotsky said. “We don’t those 63s, 64s or 65s. Everybody is tight.”

Oakton’s Graham Lawyer shot 71-69 – 140 to finish second. Chantilly’s Ji Soo Park and Centreville’s Norri Hyun tied for fourth at 143. Chantilly’s Sam Chanhiran and Oakton’s Amanda Steinhagen also claimed individual berths in the regional tournament at Fairfax National in two weeks.

In the team competition, Centreville was fifth, 31 strokes behind Westfield’s even-par 576.
