If the AAA Northern Region Playoffs Started Today

After a crazy weekend of head-scratching upsets, the Virginia AAA Northern Region continues to remain an enigma this year in that no team has owned its division, although many might say Robinson -- undefeated at 6-0 -- is starting to build its case for region power.

Here's how the playoffs would look if they started today:

DIVISION 5

Seed/Team/Record/Powerpoints/Last Week's Ranking

1. Lee (5-1) 27.3, 1
2. Stone Bridge (6-0) 27.0, 2
3. South Lakes (5-1) 25.7, 4
4. Edison (5-1) 24.8, 3
5. McLean (4-2) 23.5, 5
6. Hayfield (4-2) 23.0, T-6
7. Madison (3-3) 22.0, T-6
8. Washington-Lee (3-3) 21.8, NR

Week 6 Analysis: Apparently Lee's first loss of the year didn't hurt it much, considering it came against Lake Braddock -- a Division 6 power that played a tough enough schedule to start the season to hand Lee enough rider points to stay atop the Div. 5 seeding. What are rider points you ask? Well, don't ask, it's all very complicated and requires math, so, just trust us, it all makes sense. Don't look now, but McLean and South Lakes are a combined 9-3 and Stone Bridge and Edison are quietly hunting their way into what could be a fifth straight meeting in the regional final.

DIVISION 6

Seed/Team/Record/Powerpoints/Last Week's Ranking

1. Robinson (6-0) 29.3, 1
2. W.T. Woodson (5-1) 26.8, 2
3. South County (5-1) 26.5, 3
4. Lake Braddock (4-2) 25.8, 8
5. Herndon (4-2) 25.0, 7
6. West Springfield (3-3) 23.3, T-5
7. Chantilly (3-3) 23.0, NR
8. Annandale (3-3) 22.8, T-5

Week 6 Analysis: Just when you think it's safe to write off perennial state power Westfield, the Bulldogs come back and blowout Oakton -- a game that has redefined the current playoff landscape. That game sent Oakton from a No. 4 seed (and home game) to the outside looking in and paved the way for Chantilly to grab a seventh seed. The team with the biggest gripe right now is T.C. Williams, which is sitting on the playoff bubble with a 22.2 powerpoint ranking despite the fact it blew out eighth-seeded Annandale, 31-7, this weekend and has a notable victory over Oakton.
