South County and Loudoun Valley both advanced to the AAA state final with dramatic victories at VCU's Siegel Center on Thursday night.

South County def. Frank W. Cox 28-26, 25-19, 18-25, 23-25, 17-15
Loudoun Valley def. Mills Godwin 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 26-24

Here's my live blogging from two very exciting, competitive semifinals....

I'm down in Richmond at VCU's Siegel Center for a pair of AAA state volleyball finals tonight.

Here's the schedule:
South County vs. Frank W. Cox - 6
Mills Godwin vs. Loudoun Valley - 8

Check back all night as I'll be updating this post with scores and highlights...

South County vs. Cox...

6:25 - The Stallions take the first set 28-26 after erasing a set point down 25-26 (SC 1-0)

6:45 - Simone Antwi uses her left hand, her face and then her powerful right to put away the Falcons in the second game, 25-19. The Stallions are one set away from the state final. (SC 2-0)

7:05 - After trailing by as many as 10 (15-5), South County has rallied to pull within 18-12. Cox just called a timeout to quell the momentum, but they're playing much better this game. Seem to have figured the Stallions out.

7:10 - Chelsea Blanford just blocked away game point and the Falcons are back in the match, 25-18. (SC 2-1)

7:15 - SC off to an early 5-1 lead in the fourth.

7:24 - The Stallions still lead in the fourth set, 16-12. Cox to serve.

7:32 - Chelsea Blanford blocks Simone Antwi to knot the score at 23-23 in the fourth. Cox to serve.

7:34 - After two more blocks from Blanford on Antwi, the Falcons put away the fourth set 25-23 to force a decisive fifth. (SC 2, Cox 2)

7:46 - Tied 12-12 in the fifth.

7:47 - Antwi's kill brings the Stallions back from an 11-8 deficit to take a 13-12 lead. Regan Jansen serving.

7:53 - Cox mishandles Shelby Robertson's serve on match point and that's it, South County holds on to advance, 17-15. Quite the match.

Next up: Mills Godwin vs. Loudoun Valley...

8:28 - Lindsay Phipps is all over the place in the early going, registering four kills to help the Vikings to a 16-8 lead in the first set.

8:39 - Morgan Clark puts away one of her several kills in the first set as the Vikings take the first 25-19. Lots of energy on both sides of the floor and very few balls are finding the floor on Valley's end. Great play from their back line so far. (LV 1-0)

9:04 - Mills Godwin will serve with set point to even the match...

9:07 - After a Valley rally, the Eagles take the set 25-23. We're all tied. (LV 1, MG 1).

9:23 - Godwin leads 14-10 in a back and forth third set. We've got an official stoppage of play at the moment. The Vikings are trying to regroup.

9:33 - The Vikings trailed nearly the entire third set but have stormed back to take a 21-20 lead punctuated by Nicole Burnett's dump for a winner. (The Mills Godwin student section is quite large and quite loud, and positioned right behind me.)

9:36 - Another heady play from Bennett clinches the third set for the Vikes, 25-21. With her teammates scrambling to get back on their feet after digging a short ball from the Eagles, Bennett pushed her would-be set deep into the back left corner of the Godwin side of the floor for a winner. (LV 2-1)

9:49 - Godwin just reeled off five straight points to take a 12-9 lead in the fourth.

10:04 - It's match point for Valley after an ace from Kristen Martin. She'll serve for the match.

10:23 - That long pause was me scrambling to get a quote from Laird Johnson. Vikings win it in four and are headed back to the state title game for the first time since 2004. The final - 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 26-24.

Which means your final for Saturday at 2:30 is set...
