Loudoun County's Hanna named Gatorade Va. Player of the Year
Loudoun County senior outside hitter Juliane Hanna added to her slew of 2009 accolades Wednesday when she was named the Gatorade Virginia Volleyball Player of the Year.
A four-year player with the Raiders, Hanna was a critical contributor to the team's three consecutive Virginia AA state titles and four state final appearances. The 5-foot-10 hitter recorded 312 kills, 204 digs and 76 aces on the season and had 41 kills, 31 digs, 11 blocks and 11 aces in three state tournament matches to lead her team to a sweep over previously undefeated Grafton in last month's state championship match. She was named Dulles District, Region II and Virginia AA player of the year.
"Juliane Hanna is an all-around tough player," Westfield Coach Jim Bour said. "The thing about her is I don't remember any weaknesses. She comes at you in waves; she's relentless. Hanna's just one of those players you want on the court with you."
Hanna has also excelled in the classroom, where she maintains a 3.5 GPA. The first team All-Met will play for for the University of New Mexico next fall.
