Dec. 16, 10:30 a.m.: This is the slowest stretch in the college basketball season, but one game produced a dramatic ending last night. And if you have not seen it yet, check out the 60-foot heave by Cleveland State’s Cedric Jackson that gave Syracuse its first loss of the season. Here is the link to a YouTube clip. Here is complete coverage from the Syracuse Post Standard as well.
In other action last night, Seth Curry made 4 of 8 three-point shots and finished with 22 points in a blowout victory over Anderson (SC). Connecticut blasted Stony Brook, 91-57. Taj Gibson had 25 points in Southern California’s 91-77 victory over Pepperdine. And Lester Hudson had 28 in Tennessee-Martin’s win over Middle Tennessee.
The best game tonight is Marquette against a Tennessee team looking to get back on track after the Temple loss. Also keep an eye on the first game of the double-header at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tenn., because South Florida’s Gus Gilchrist will look for a better performance than he had in his debut. Gilchrist made 3 of 9 shots and scored eight points in a loss to Niagara. The Bulls get Vanderbilt tonight.
