Sophomore guard Travis King didn’t make it down to the Mall in time to watch Barack Obama be sworn in as President, but he and his girlfriend arrived at the Lincoln Memorial not long after and joined in the celebration.

“It was pretty crazy down there,” King said. “You couldn’t really move that’s how many people were down there. . . . Everybody was just happy. It was a common goal. Everybody was just enjoying the moment. They were hugging each other. Everybody was just happy and ecstatic.”

King said it was “really cold” and so they stayed less than an hour before wandering over to watch the parade. With no classes or practice, he had the entire day to take in the festivities.

“I’m glad I went,” he said. “It was an once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was cold, but that didn’t stop me from going. It was a great day.”
