Press Break The Post's Rundown of Local and National College Basketball
Top of the Arc - January 7, 2009

Jan. 7, 9 a.m.: A few years ago, when I had a better chance of resembling a college student, I obtained a copy of Duke’s infamous cheer sheets before a Maryland game. I posted it on the Web site, not sure how we did that, and fans got a kick out of it. Well, colleague Zach Berman obtained a copy of one this past weekend during his visit for the Virginia Tech game. Here is the entire Virginia Tech side of the sheet:

"Vassallo was arrested last month on charges of petit larceny shoplifting and driving without a license. He and a former teammate stole a 12-pack of Dr. Pepper from a display outside a gas station while a state trooper watched from inside. When pulled over, Vassallo could only produce his student ID. In typical Hokie fashion, though, he was not suspended.

"Allen was suspended for 2 games last year because he made contact with a referee during a loss to Georgia Tech. As a result he couldn't help the Hokies as we pounded them 81-84.

"Some of the Hokies freshmen were apparently pretty intimidated in their first game against Duke last year. Delaney started but only scorer 4 points on 1-6 shooting and committed 4 turnovers before fouling out in just 17 minutes. Thorns wasn't much better, with 6 points on 2-9 shooting and 5 turnovers.

"You know Stephen Curry, the future lottery pick who carried Davidson to the Elite Eight last year? He wanted to play at Virginia Tech like his father had but Greenberg refused to offer him a spot on the team."
