Howard hopes the three players who did not travel with the Bison to Florida this past weekend for games at Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman because of “academic issues” do not have to miss the entire semester, according to a school spokesman. Freshman guards Chris McHenry and Calvin Thompson and sophomore forward Adam Walker missed Howard’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opening losses at Florida A&M (79-74 in overtime) and at Bethune-Cookman (73-56). McHenry, who was the MEAC rookie of the week last week, is the team’s second-leading scorer at 9.6 points per game. Thompson started six games and averages 6.3 points per game. Walker also started six games and averages 4.1 points per game. The spokesman said Coach Gil Jackson will try to resolve the situation once the team returns from Florida.
