Press Break The Post's Rundown of Local and National College Basketball
Top of the Arc - March 11, 2009

March 11, 2:30 p.m.: Maryland guard Greivis Vasquez said he plans to declare for the NBA draft at some point after the season and to go through the process and attend pre-draft camps to see where he stands. At that point, he will decide whether he will come back to Maryland for his senior season.

It is common for top underclassmen to at least test the NBA waters and then decide whether to come back. They are allowed to return to school as long as they don’t sign with an agent.

“If I come back my goal is not going to be just to make the tournament,” Vasquez said. “My goal is to win a national championship. But, in the meantime, we’ve got to get Lance. With a big-time scorer I can guarantee you a lot of things.”

Vasquez said seeing where he stacks up will be the smart thing for him to do, but he made very clear that he does not want to talk about these issues right now because the focus is on beating North Carolina State tomorrow in the ACC tournament to keep Maryland’s NCAA tournament hopes alive.
