Press Break The Post's Rundown of Local and National College Basketball
Top of the Arc - March 12, 2009

March 12, 2:45 p.m.: The day is young and we already have some significant developments among bubble teams.

Minnesota beat Northwestern so that should all but lock up an at-large berth for the Golden Gophers. Northwestern has had a nice season, but it does not look like it will be enough.

Virginia Tech’s convincing victory over Miami is a significant step forward for the Hokies, who were 1-6 down the stretch. The Hokies will need to beat North Carolina on Friday to solidify a bid, but they are on the right track and still alive.

Providence lost by 18 to Louisville. A win against DePaul in the Big East tournament is probably not enough to impress selection committee members enough to warrant inclusion. But the Friars remain on the fringe of the discussion.

And Baylor beat Kansas in the Big 12 tournament. Great win for Baylor, but because of a 5-11 conference record, the Bears likely have to win the league tournament.

Back to the games …
