March 16, 4:45 p.m.: Men's basketball coach Dave Leitao is out at Virginia. A school official told Cavaliers beat writer Zach Berman that Leitao has "resigned." But according to multiple reports this afternoon, the school fired Leitao today.

CBSSports.com reports that Oklahoma Coach Jeff Capel could be among Virginia's top targets. Capel knows the state of Virginia because of his days as the head coach at Virginia Commonwealth.

Dennis Coleman, Capel's agent, told Maryland beat writer Steve Yanda today that Coleman had not heard from anyone at Virginia, that he had just found out about Leitao and that he would not comment on Capel's potential interest in the Virginia job.

Ricky Lefft, the agent for Minnesota Coach Tubby Smith, told Yanda today that Lefft had not heard about Leitao's firing and that he wouldn't comment on Smith's interest because "it would not be appropriate."

In four seasons at Virginia, Leitao amassed a 63-60 record. Virginia (10-18) finished 11th in the ACC this season, losing in the first round of the ACC tournament against Boston College.

More to come...

i hate to say it, but i think they should hire jeff jones again. he was a fine coach when he was at uva, though immaturity--too much, too soon--brought him down. he's apparently matured now and done a fine job at american

I agree on Jeff Jones, we should have promised the job to Odom when Terry Holland left and let Odom groom Jones for the job. Capel has recruiting ties and I would prefer Capel over Smith.
But, we shouldn't forget Rick Barnes, maybe he'll actually follow through and take the job for real this time.

UVA football would be better off if Littlepage had fired Al Groh after his first losing season.

And please don't hire Twenty-Win Tubby. But Billy Gillespie would be worse.

I feel they should start by removing Littlepaige he hired the problems. On Al Groh i think UVA need to try to keep the assistant coaches it is hard to have a good program when the assistant coaches change every year. Al needs to give some of his money for better support and that might save his job. I have had season tickets for 15 years and will not get them this year. I bleed orange and blue but the show is not worth paying for
