Guard Hank Thorns is transferring from Virginia Tech, the school announced Monday. Thorns’s departure opens a space for former Florida forward Allan Chaney, who was granted a release from the Gators in April and reportedly gave the Hokies an oral committment. Chaney had narrowed his choices to Virginia Tech and Providence.
Thorns averaged 2.7 points and 2.4 assists. He started three games last season. Chaney, a Baltimore native who played one season at Florida, averaged three points in 9.8 minutes. He was suspended at the end of season for undisclosed reasons by Coach Billy Donovan.
