Former Virginia Tech guard Hank Thorns is transferring to Texas Christian. Thorns, who was granted his release from the Hokies on May 11, told The Post that he chose TCU over Fresno State and DePaul.

“I felt comfortable with the situation,” Thorns said. “ The other schools were great, but [TCU] was the right opportunity.”

Thorns liked Coach Jim Christian and the coaching staff, which just concluded their first season. The Horned Frogs finished 14-17.

Thorns averaged 3.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists during his two years at Virginia Tech. He started 15 of 65 games, but was told by the Virginia Tech coaching staff that he would struggle to receive consistent playing time.

He has family in the Dallas area and will play against Nevada-Las Vegas and the Mountain West tournament in his native Las Vegas – both draws to the Horned Frogs situation.

“That factored a lot into the decision,” Thorns said. “I’ve been visiting Dallas ever since I was a little kid.”
