Riding Shotgun

Photo by Michael Williamson/The Washington Post
This morning, Michael and I met at the Washington Post and started a road trip that will take us across the nation. Along the way, we will stop at street-side businesses, tucked away dwellings and neglected nooks, chroniclng lives near and far in an effort to understand the economic times in which we live.
Like any road trip, there will inevitably be arguments over the radio, disagreements about dinner joints and moments the GPS system will fail us and utter a maddening series of “recalculating" (some of which I will probably write about here).
But there will also be many unknowns – which roads we will take, what towns we will stop in and what stories we’ll find. We, along with you, will be discovering: What does this recession look like unfiltered, day to day, state by state?

See if the "Blue Roads" don't bring you to some hopeful people. *That* would be news!

Defeated people?
Remember the Depression
passed because of hope.

Who finds a cross-country road trip so difficult they must fly?

I didn't mean to come across as questioning your road trip abilities . I should have phrased that a bit differently. I am guessing there is so reason why the flying is involved?

Get a map from the early 50's so as to stay off the interstates. It's called color.
