A Few Stone Bridge Notes
Stone Bridge Coach Mickey Thompson confirmed that running back Devon Brown has transferred from O'Connell. Brown, who is 5 feet 10 and 175 pounds, was first-team all-conference in the WCAC last year and Thompson expects Brown will receive plenty of attention from recruiters this fall.
"I didn't know if he was all that good, but after three days in camp, he's the real deal," Thompson said. "He's doing things in three days I've never seen from anyone in coaching."
Thompson, entering his 17th season as a head coach, added that junior safety Jaron Gouveia - son of former NFLer Kurt Gouveia - also is a top prospect.
"I think he'll get some offers September 1," Thompson said, pointing to the day colleges are allowed to formally extend scholarship offers to juniors. "Virginia and Virginia Tech are the main ones. Once those start, then it takes off."
Gouveia is 6-2 and 180 pounds.
Another Stone Bridge junior to keep an eye on is quarterback Terence Glenn, who is 5-10 and 170 pounds. "I think he'll get offers," Thompson said. "The question is do you recruit him as a quarterback or as an athlete."
Of course, Stone Bridge's biggest recruit - literally and figuratively - is lineman Andrew Nuss, who this summer committed to Notre Dame.
