Garner Shoots and Scores
George Mason assistant coach Chris Caputo was in attendance this past Friday to watch Springbrook junior guard C.J. Garner score 31 points in a victory over Blake. Garner could be an interesting prospect to watch. He's excellent at getting to the basket, drawing fouls and finishing, but I'm sure college coaches will wonder about his shot. Few of his shots were from the outside - save for an ill-advised three-pointer with the Blue Devils leading by 20. That shot hit the side of the backboard and drew a reprimand from the coaching staff. Even Garner joked afterward that the only time he time he shoots jump shots is when he goes to the foul line.
In some other news, a former Fredericksburg-area standout has enrolled at Temple, which needs plenty of help after going 1-10 in Al Golden's first season as head coach.
Also, McDaniel College men's basketball coach Bob Flynn, who once coached at Cardinal Gibbons, died Friday night after having a heart attack. His funeral is Thursday.
DeMatha football coach Bill McGregor called to say that kicker Kilgo Livingston has committed to play for Georgetown. Defensive lineman Calvin Johnson committed to Western Carolina over the weekend. Linebacker Justin Brown is considering Monmouth and Towson.
