Iowa Serious About DeMatha Guard

Guess that Iowa is pretty serious about DeMatha point guard Jeff Peterson. While Xavier and St. Louis had assistant coaches at last night's City Title game to see Peterson play, Iowa Coach Steve Alford was at Verizon Center last night. Peterson had a splendid game, with eight steals and eight assists - many in the third quarter as the Stags pulled away.

Here's a story about Maryland landing recruits from Montrose Christian. However, I've got a few issues with the premise of the story, that recruiting Greivis Vasquez somehow opened a pipeline between Stu Vetter and College Park. The two seniors currently at Montrose and heading for Maryland - guard Adrian Bowie and center Shane Walker - are connected to the Terrapins in other ways. Walker, originally from London, played at Bishop Ireton for Chuck Driesell, who was hired as an assistant over the summer by Gary Williams. Bowie's father, John, works in the Maryland athletic department and for many years was the equipment manager for the men's basketball team.

In football news, one-time DeMatha star Derrick McPhearson got kicked off the team at Illinois after being charged with burglary and theft. That's three standouts from the region to falter at Illinois, joining Melvin Alaeze and Marcus Mason.
