Gilchrist Seeking Another Destination?
Spoke to second-team All-Met center Gus Gilchrist last night and he confirmed he is uncertain what he plans to do next season but declined to say more. Gilchrist, who was home schooled and played for Progressive Christian this past season, signed a letter-of-intent to play for Virginia Tech in November.
"Everything is pretty much up in the air," Gilchrist said. "I don't have all the information on what I'm going to do."
Gilchrist said he was unsure when things might be settled. He said the recent campus shootings in Blacksburg played a role in his decision.
"The whole incident had a lot to do with it," he said. "But I'll talk to you at a later time."
If I was guessing, I'd bet that Gilchrist is waiting for a release from his letter-of-intent - something Virginia Tech would have to grant before Gilchrist could pursue other avenues, though I'm sure those discussions are (hush-hush) happening. Will the Hokies grant the release? That's a good question. In the days leading up to the Capital Classic last month, the general consensus was that Virginia Tech had a steal in Gilchrist.
