Twyman Gets Scholarship Offer

Sherwood's Deontay Twyman, the first basketball-football first-team All-Met since Lawrence Moten finally has a scholarship offer. Sherwood AD Bob Cilento reports that Twyman took an official visit to Ball State late last week and the Cardinals -- coached by Ronny Thompson -- offered Twyman a basketball scholarship. No word yet on whether Twyman will accept. I know Twyman's ability to meet the NCAA's initial academic eligibility standards has been a question, but if he can make it, his toughness on the court will be an asset wherever he goes.

As a former Sherwood student, it's great to see a local kid doing well. However, in the case of an undersized QB/Guard, with academic issues, why hasn't Fork Union, Valley Forge, or another military academy with a Post-Graduate program come forward? That year could prove invaluable in his growth as an athlete and scholar.
