Area's Top Prospect Close to a Decision?

Nope, not at all.

Kenny Tate is the area's most sought-after recruit, but don't expect DeMatha's All-Met wide receiver to make a college choice anytime soon. Stags Coach Bill McGregor said he and his star player have yet to begin working up a list of prospective colleges.

"He has basically anything in the country," McGregor said. "We haven't gone anywhere with it. At some point, we'll narrow it down to five or 10 schoos. We're just waiting to see how it goes."

Tate is far from the only DeMatha player receiving college attention. Heck, he's not even the only player at his position getting top-notch looks. Fellow wide receiver Rodney McLeod holds offers from Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Illinois, Michigan State and Syracuse.

Offensive lineman Rob McDowell, who is 6-3 and 275 pounds, has offers from Ohio, Akron, U-Mass., and New Hampshire. Another offensive lineman, 6-5, 320-pound D.J. Sellman has been offered by Ohio, Akron and Liberty. Tight end Joe Collura (6-4, 245) recently got his first scholarship offer, from Army.
