Terps Close to Landing Two Hoops Recruits
It's a busy time for recruiting season in College Park. Last week, the Terrapins landed big man Terrence Jennings of Sacramento. Now, it appears Maryland is closing in on two more commitments.
Wing player Chris Turner, who is from Durham and attends the Winchendon (Mass.) School, has Maryland at the top of his list and could finalize a commitment later this week.
"I just talked with Coach [Keith] Booth at Maryland; they have not directly talked to Chris," Winchendon Coach Mike Byrnes said. "Maryland has been his number one choice. Coach [Gary] Williams came in over the summer and was very impressed. But there are things he had to do this summer in summer school to show their administration he was going to get himself qualfiied. Until those things happen and those grades are posted, nothing can be done."
Byrnes said the summer session ended last Friday and that grades could be posted before the end of this week.
"He's a 6-5 shooting guard [with] a quick release and athletic," Byrnes said. "He's a talented kid that can make money playing basketball someday. If he gets stronger, if he commits himself on the defensive side of the ball. He's got a chance to make money. Maryland really, really likes Chris, but there are a lot of things that have to take place for this all to work out."
Meantime, another commitment from just up I-95 could come Wednesday, when Baltimore wing player Sean Mosley of St. Fances could announces his decision at a noon news conference. Mosley is also considering Syracuse, Florida State, Clemson and Seton Hall, but it appears that Maryland could be his most likely destination.
