Whitaker Done At Quarterback, Moves to Receiver

I'm not sure how this will play out, but Virginia Tech Coach Frank Beamer announced today that former All-Met quarterback Ike Whitaker will move full-time to wide receiver.

I'm sure the folks in Blacksburg are working on this for tomorrow's papers, but here are the obvious questions, with Beamer stating that freshman Tyrod Taylor is No. 2 on the depth chart behind quarterback Sean Glennon.

Is this because Whitaker was that good at receiver? Or because Taylor passed him on the totem pole at quarterback? How does Whitaker feel about the move? Will he stick with it for the longterm? Or will he want to transfer?

"We think Ike can help this football team as a wide receiver and then he will determine if he'll go back to quarterback after this season," Beamer said in a statement released by Virginia Tech. "We've been impressed with Tyrod. We want to get him the second-team work in practice and make a decision later on whether to redshirt him or try to play him."
