One-Time Local Set For Fresh Start
Here's a good read on one-time Montrose Christian player Herb Pope. Once regarded as an elite prospect and wooed by Maryland just last year, Pope is a freshman at New Mexico State, where former D.C. area travel-team coach Chris Pompey is an assistant coach.
The short story: Heavily recruited, Pope chose New Mexico State to flee the Pittsburgh area. Last spring, he was shot four times outside a party. He's lost weight but seems to have a new attitude. Of course, if you follow these stories closely, you know to always be skeptical - that refrain is often repeated and rarely followed. We'll have to wait and see how things turn out for Pope.
