Scouting Report on Terps' Latest Hoops Recruit

Just got off the phone with South Kent Prep Coach Raphael Chillious. He offered this scouting report on junior forward Jin Soo Kim, who over the weekend committed to play basketball at Maryland:

"He doesn't play AAU here. A lot of people don't know him nationally because he plays so much internationally. He's a legit 6-9, a great shooter - not just a good shooter. He's very athletic and quick off the dribble. He needs to get stronger. Even with the guys we have, he'll be a major contributor this year."

Chillious said that Kim early on narrowed his college choices to Maryland and Georgetown. The Hoyas initially recruited Kim before backing off, Chillious said. Maryland offered a scholarship last month and Kim wanted to commit immediately but listened to his parents' advice and waited to visit campus before making a final decision, Chillious said. Kim came to the United States for high school, spending his freshman year in California before moving to South Kent.

"I think he'll be the first Korean born player in division I," Chillious said. "There are a lot of American-born Koreans."

Chillious said that former Oxon Hill standout Maurice Creek, a junior guard, has narrowed his college choices to Pittsburgh, Marquette and Texas.
