JMU Nets Local Pivot

Heard about this yesterday, and caught up with James Madison assistant Bino Ranson today, who confirms that Friendship Collegiate center Alvin Brown has signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Duke. The 6-10, 200-pound Brown was drawing considerable interest from teams looking to add a big man late in the recruiting period.

"He has a lot of potential," Ranson said. "His upside is great. He has some skill. He can run the floor. And he can finish around the basket. The only thing we think he needs to add right now is strength and he needs to continue to get better."

JMU's new coach is Matt Brady, who comes from Marist, where he recruited MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year Jay Gavin from Bishop McNamara. Gavin is now transferring to Virginia Commonwealth.
