Penn State Strikes for Third Time in a Week
Just got off the line with Edison Coach Vaughn Lewis, who reports that offensive lineman Frank Figueroa has committed to Penn State, the third local player in a week to say he will accept a scholarship offer from the Nittany Lions.
Figueroa, a guard, had yet to receive any other scholarship offers, though Lewis expected more were in the works, with Rutgers among those showing the most interest in the 6-4, 275-pound junior.
"He's got a great work ethic," Lewis said. "He hasn't missed 10 days in the weight room since he entered Edison. He's got over a 3.9 GPA. He's got size. He's going to be a really good player."
Edison's other top prospect for next season is linebacker Stephon Robertson, who is 5-11 and 190 pounds and projects as a safety in college. Robertson doesn't have any offers yet, but Maryland, Virginia, Penn State, Rutgers and LSU are interested, Lewis said.
"He's a little undersized," Lewis said. "But he's not going to be a linebacker. We have to play him at linebacker because he's been the leading tackler on our team for two years."
