Good Alternative to an Early Signing Period

While SEC coaches want the early to create an early signing period for football - something I don't think is close to happening - here's what I think is a much better idea: Prohibit all those early scholarship offers. If a player can't be offered until the start of his senior year, that gives more time to evaluate the player and less time for him to change his mind. The biggest problem I see is that it would run recruiting into the heart of the college season, when coaches have more important things to worry about. Then again, if they are forced to put less of an emphasis on recruiting would that be a bad thing?
