Should Recuits Get Second Chances?

This was a hot topic locally last year and is making its annual appearance in the news.

A Nebraska recruit who reached a plea agreement and received probation after allegedly robbing a man of $900 plans to enroll in summer school next week and be ready for the start of practice next month. Surprised that the Cornhuskers are still taking defensive end Josh Williams? Former colleague Jon Solomon isn't: He writes that paying attention to such issues would be a royal pain for colleges, their towns and their pocketbooks.

Meantime, former Sherwood standout Dominique Budd is accused of beating a man in Ocean City and stealing $14. Interestingly, Budd's intented college, Bowie State, says it is unsure how it will proceed with respect to Budd - a notion that a colleague found laughable given that Division II is the home to second-chance athletes and Bowie State has had more than its share through the years.
