Spotlight on Tennessee Recruit Damien Thigpen
This week's Recruiting Spotlight features Stonewall Jackson's Damien Thigpen -- a 5-foot-9, 170-pound running back and cornerback who has orally committed to Tennessee.
Thigpen comes from a football family; his father Doug played at Southern Miss and his uncle Gene Lang played at LSU before a seven-year career in the NFL that included time with the Broncos and Falcons.
Thigpen missed three games last season with an ankle injury but managed 632 yards on 79 carries while splitting time with Virginia Tech recruit Ryan Williams. Thigpen -- an All-Met track star -- is nationally ranked in the 55-meter dash and sports a 4.34-second 40-yard dash. He's relying on a conditioning program developed by his father to make him one of the area's top returning backs and looks to add to his 32 tackles, three blocked three field goals and one blocked punt last fall. He chose the Volunteers over offers from Auburn, Boston College, Connecticut, Minnesota, Stanford and West Virginia.
