Whack Picks George Mason

Rashad Whack did not waste any time making his college choice. The Bishop McNamara shooting guard, on the first weekend he could take an official recruiting trip to a college campus, made the trek to George Mason and committed to play for the Patriots.

Mason has been recruiting Whack for three years now, according to McNamara Coach Marty Keithline, and Whack was plenty familiar with his future team.

"From the get-go, I wanted to stay near home and not go that far," Whack said. "After going up there this weekend, I enjoyed the school and campus and enjoyed hanging with the players and felt close to the coaches."

Whack joins the long list of local players to enlist with the Patriots, and he said their success in Fairfax played a role in his choice. He also could have the opportunity to make an early impact.

Whack also had scholarship offers from Richmond, VCU, James Madison, St. Bonaventure, Marist, William & Mary and Towson, Keithline said.

"It's a good opportunity for him," Keithline said. "They're graduating a few guys at his position [after the upcoming season]. It's a good opportunity to play in front of his family and a good chance to play right away."

Rashad made a smart choice. With Mason pulling in the best recruiting in the CAA for 2008, he will be in good company next year. Can't wait to see him in green and gold.
