Wow! Local Pair Commits to Duke!
Just pulled into the Outer Banks for vacation (no Insider next week), unpacked and checked my email to read that Gonzaga guard Tyler Thornton and Courtland forward Josh Hairston -- a pair of top juniors -- today committed to play basketball for Duke, according to Courtland Coach J.T. Nino.
I'll have something in tomorrow's paper and I'm sure there will be more to come in the next few weeks.

Looks like ole Gary misses again on top recruits from the area. It's a crying shame that both basketball and football at UMD misses out on the areas top talent.

Surprised that Thorton did not stay close to home and goto Georgetown. JTIII had been to a lot of Gonzaga games the past couple years and from what I heard from sources, was a high target recruit.
He would of had one year to play under Chris Wright, then have an opportunity to start in his sophomore year.

I am extremely happy that Hairston and Thornton chose Duke.
Once again, Gary Williams is beaten badly by Coach K on the recruiting trail.
Gary Williams is a good golfer.

I believe that the olympics has revived Coach K's notariety. High school recruits will probably pick Duke because they may think that Coach K can get them into the NBA. It was totally unfair to other college coaches, because anyone could have coached: Mr. James, Mr. Bryant, Mr. Wade and etc.etc.

It is "onto" as you can not pull "into" the Outer Banks. Then again, you are a journalist. Perhaps into Pamlico or Albemarle Sound.

Looks like Coach K just land two more gold medals in Thornton and Hairston. The 2010 class is really shaping up. Andre Dawkins is a 5-star recruit, while Thornton and Hairston are 4-star recruits. I wouldn't mind Coach K going after a small forward next, someone like Roscoe Smith of Baltimore. We all know that good Maryland recruits won't play for Gary :)
